As the water lapped around my knees I realised the entire stretch of beach was now deep under water. I turned to look at the steep rock-face, wondering if a person could climb to the top before the water washed them out to sea.
Further along the beach people were waving and shouting. I couldn’t hear them. The rainclouds darkened, reducing the light and I knew I had to do something soon. One more good look around confirmed my decision. I climbed back into my boat and started the motor.
