My normal aim is to have at least two or three short stories underway at any time. I’ve returned from the regular writing class/group on a high tonight. John, our leader told us a couple of weeks ago about possible entries to be recorded for a ‘talking book’. I submitted, ‘Mary had a little gun…’ and it’s been chosen for inclusion. Tonight on the same subject he mentioned that there was now some discussion about a title. During our two hour session this evening I came up with four ideas. I’ll update here with any progress.
My short story about a lone UN soldier stranded in a riot situation in an African uprising is picking up pace. I’m pleased with what I believe will be the title of the finished piece, ‘Photographic Memory’. Last week at the group John suggested adding a character that wasn’t originally in the plot, somebody who didn’t belong, simply to see if it changed the dynamic. Within 200 words I managed to introduce a character from nowhere, get rid of him and have his appearance still affect the ongoing tale. I’m pleased with that. We have four weeks until the deadline for completion of our stories but I’m now aiming to finish it next week. If I’m pleased with the result I may even enter it into a competition. Again, progress will be reported here.
Having just completed a series of seven poems on a medieval theme I am now working on a collboration with Brandy, a friend from the Starlite Cafe site. It has a working title of, ‘Intimate Moments’ which sums up the content. I haven’t written with Brandy before but I’ve enjoyed reading her work so I’m looking forward to the result of this joint effort.
I think I would get confused between writing styles if I had that many things on the go at once!
Well done on getting included in the talking book. Looking forward to the updates…
